Fundamentals of Acting
Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to the processes of acting, including developing clear characters, analyzing scripts, exploring dramatic action and conflict and making bold choices in the development of scenes and monologues. Students will work on basic acting skills including movement, voice, and improvisation. Substantial written and performance work is required. (FAP)
I took Fundamentals of Acting with Professor Juhl during Spring Semester 2017. Not only did I learn a lot about acting, but I learned a great deal about human behavior. People are constantly pursuing objectives and changing tactics in order to get what we want. Why would a character not do the same?

I worked on a scene from End Days by Deborah Zoe Laufer. My character, Rachel Stein, was a sixteen year old nihilistic goth. I broke the scene down into beats and memorized one beat at a time. Additionally, I did a full character analysis which helped me bring the character to life.

I had learned a bit about lights and sound prior to taking this course. Therefore, I was able to help everyone in the class add those elements to their scenes.
