The Don Juan Project was the first production I had opportunity to work on at Southwestern University. This show was very experimental. It consisted of original music compositions, arias and an original script. Having never worked on the technical side of theatre before, I had to overcome a pretty steep learning curve. I enjoyed learning about all of the moving pieces that go into creating a production while getting hands on experience as an assistant stage manager. This experience drove my fascination and desire to understand all of the moving pieces that go into a production.

One of the biggest challenges for the stage management team on this show was having to strike and set concert shells before and after every rehearsal. Because the space we were using is used to host other music and university events, we would have to remove all of our scenic elements and set up the space for whoever was going to be using it next.

While working on this show, I was responsible for being on-book, flying a rail out, warning the opera singers for their entrances, and being the eyes, ears, and hands backstage for the production stage manager. I was grateful for the opportunity to be given so many responsibilities.
