Lighting Laboratory
Course Description:
This course is designed to complement Theatre Company by providing a laboratory setting for students to learn and develop their skills in technical theatre which in turn will support the production component of the curriculum.
I took Lighting Laboratory with master electrician Patrick Anthony in Fall Semester 2017, Fall Semester 2018, and Spring Semester 2019. Additionally, I worked as an assistant in this course Spring Semester 2018.

Not only did this course teach me how to read a light plot, hang, hard patch, soft patch, troubleshoot, and focus lights, cut gel, and safely use ladders and the Genie lift, but it also taught me about basic electrical safety, The West Virginia formula, how to rewire practicals, and how to make cable.

While in this course, I was able to help hang and focus the lights for Southwestern University's productions of Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, Noises Off, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Bright Room Called Day, Silent Sky, Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Heathers The Musical, The Effect, and American Buffalo. Additionally, I was able to help hand and focus for various music and dance related events happening in our spaces.
